CSCC News for October

CSCC members, hello!

We’re getting closer and closer to snow flying (hey there, Ice Dice and winter autoX!) but the weather is currently glorious and will remain so, up to and including next Saturday, which will see our last club event on dry ground. There are just five days left to register for the CSCC lapping day at Rocky Mountain Motorsports on October 14. See it here:

In other news, our club meeting on October 5 included board elections. Here are the results, and please note there are a number of positions that will remain vacant until an interested person fills them, and that person could be you:

Ice Dice Director:  Rob Jackett nominated David Gray; Stuart Taylor seconded; no other runners; David Gray is acclaimed.

Rally Director:  Shawn Bishop nominated Rob Jackett; David Gray seconded; no other runners; Rob Jackett is acclaimed.

Race Director:  Stuart Taylor is stepping down after 9 years in the position; no new nominations; position is vacant until someone expresses interest.

Solo/AutoX Director:  no nominations; position is vacant until someone expresses interest.

Social Director:  Debbie Dyer nominated Celine Pepperdine; Rob Jackett seconded; no other runners; Celine Pepperdine is acclaimed.

Broken Spoke Editor:  no nominations; position is vacant until someone expresses interest.

Treasurer:  David Gray nominated Debbie Dyer; Shawn Bishop seconded; Debbie Dyer accepted and is acclaimed, with the disclosure that her company does the books.

President:  Amanda Ann would like to step down. There are no new nominations. In this case, we will leave the position as it is for 30 days and revisit. The president can hold the position for three years.

Please note that at our next board meeting on Thursday, November 2, we will follow the business portion of our meeting with a reunion social. Please come on out to that, no matter how old or new a member you are. And please pass along an invitation to the members and former members of the CSCC who you may know who have been around for a long time. We have some e-mails and phone numbers, but maybe not all, so give us a hand with this, please! Cheers

Save the date! Our club Christmas party will follow our (very-short-to-non-existent) board meeting on Thursday, December 14. There will be food, drink, and entertainment, so please mark your calendar and plan to join us!

With colder weather upon us, we are looking forward to the Ice Dice and Winter AutoX events. The first winter autoX will be at Cook’s farm on December 2. Mark that one on your calendar and watch for more info to come. Ice Dice will be at Lake MacGregor this year (thanks, Dean!) – watch for more info on those, closer to Christmas.

And, finally! We are occasionally gifted magazines, books, photos, and artefacts of all sorts, which we catalogue into our archives. Recently, the Vol. 1, Issue 1 “Northern Wheels” magazine was gifted to us, within which is an article about the beginnings of Race City Speedway. I have made a copy of that article and shared it to our club Facebook page. We welcome you to join us there as part of keeping informed about all club activities and you can find it here:  www.facebook.com/groups/2114182222115278.

As always, don’t hesitate to send questions, comments, anything, anytime.

Cheers,

Jamie Gray

VP/Secretary, Calgary Sports Car Club

Remember to ask for your CSCC membership discounts at Lordco, Napa, and PM Hobbycraft (RC cars and slot cars, my friends!). You can cover the cost of your membership in one visit to any of these places.
