2010 Loop Rally

Well this year's event was a bit of an adventure with a few challenging sections and a locked gate to contend with. If anyone has pictures of the golf requiring 5 (five!) tow ropes to extract it from the mud... :)

Congratulations to Peter and Geoff Hill for their solid run to first place, keeping in mind that almost 70% of their penalties were earned in regularity 8! Bill and Jacqueline Dubreuil finished in second proving once again that the calculator is mightier than the computer while 3rd went to Richard and Helen in their BMW IX.

The top placed novice team was John and Evan Munroe in a 1972 Toyota Corolla. RWD may not have been the fastest but it looked like the most fun. Honorable mention must go to Bob & Heather Friesen who _almost_ beat Peter Hill on regularity 8 in a 1972 Alfa Romeo Berlina... yikes!

A huge thanks to all of the dedicated volunteers. Tom running Tech, Kris/Jaclyn for Sweeping in Josh's truck, Marcel for his mapmaking and scoring skills, and to Shawn, Chuck, Trevor and Matt for checkpointing. These events wouldn't happen without your support.

The next (and last!) event in the Championship is the SCO Rally on October 9th in Regina, SK and there will be one last Novice TSD in the Calgary area on November 13th.

Tuesday September 14, 20:15 - PreRun finished and unlike Mudlark the 'Loop' has plenty of MUD! :)

Scenic mountain roads... check!

... and high average speeds??! Doh!

Due to all the rain that fell in the last few weeks the prerun(s) were all extreemly muddy, however the forecast is calling for a limited amount of rain before the event so things could still dry up. However, with a temperature of -5C expected overnight during the event... a good set of snow tires will not be a poor choice :)

Just a reminder that most of the event takes place on remote mountain roads where there is ZERO cell coverage... please be prepared for conditions and drive accordingly. Lights are good, snorkels not required but CAI's are BAD! :)

P.S. insane amount of wildlife... a few foxes/coyotees/elk, lots of deer and hundreds of wild horses and cows.

Provisional Start Order

The Loop Rally will run overnight on Sept 18/19th 2010.

This is a TSD, so we won't be travelling at warp speed, but some auxiluary lights would not do any harm.

There will be an informative Q&A Session for competitors new to TSD rallying from 16:30 to 17:30 on Sept 18th.

The rally will use straight-forward navigation in a Regularity / Monte Carlo format, including challenging driving sections. Some driving proficiency will be required due to the night schedule and the nature of the event.

Entries

Maximum number of entries is 25.
Minimum number of entries is 6 cars - if that number of paid entries is not received by the draw date the event will be cancelled.

There will be a draw at 21:00 Thursday September 16th, to determine starting order.
Any entry received after this time will be assigned numbers in the order received.

Fees

Entry received prior to close of early entries:

WCMA/CARS Club Members (both crew members) $75 per car
Non WCMA/CARS Club Members $85 per car.

Payable online or by mailing a cheque (see Supps for details).
