2010 Mudlark Rally The 2010 Mudlark TSD Rally is POSTPONED until Saturday, May 15th 2010
Competitors will experience an evening of exploration and discovery on carefully selected pavement, gravel, and dirt roads with the odd 'goat trail' thrown in for good luck. While the event is geared towards novice teams, due to the nature of the roads (gravel and dirt) and the late start (sunset to sunrise) some driving proficiency is required. The rally will start in Calgary, break twice for gas/food and then finish bright and early somewhat close to Calgary. Trophies will be awarded for overall finishing position and class wins (Paper/Calculator/Unlimited and Novice). Teams wishing to brush up on their navigational (and mathematical) skills or for anyone unfamiliar with the concept of Time Speed Distance navigation, there is a novice course at the clubhouse on the Thursday before the event. This is not a mandatory course for new competitors but it is highly reccomended. Please let us know if you will be attending.
The 2010 Mudlark Rally is the third TSD event of the year hosted by the Calgary Sports Car Club, and is once again the third event in the Rally West TSD Championship. The rally runs on straight-forward instructions. In addition to the route instructions, maps will be provided for recovery purposes. The rally will be about 500km long, entirely within the province of Alberta. An odometer check section of about 20km will be provided. Roads will be about 30% clear pavement, 70% gravel and all instructions will be provided in KM units. |

Final Results Congratulations to Bill and Jacqueline Dubreuil on their inaugural win at this weekends Mudlark Rally. Second place went last years winners Jason Mizzoni and Shane Ewert while third place (and the first of the unlimited class cars) went to the veteran team of Richard Childs and Helen Welter. I'd like to thank our volunteers who spent the night hiding in the bushes... Eric Grochowski, Brad Archer, Trevor Couglan and Kevin Jones. Thanks again guys these events wouldn't get off the ground without your support! Scoring didn't get any faster but there's always next year... ;) Keep your calendars open on June 6th for the Northern Loon TSD Rally held in the Edmonton/Athabasca area by the Edmonton Rally Club. Bulletins Friday May 14, 13:30 - One more sleep + last minute Novice school. Well the weather looks really nice and there is also the possibility of a little rain on Saturday to keep the dust down. Even without the 3 feet of snow the route should be really entertaining as there is still a 75m section of road with no road at all... :D For those few novice teams left who haven't attended a primer course I will be at the club house by 5:00pm for a quick 30minute session on the basics of TSD rallying. See you soon... Friday April 30, 18:30 - Postponed for 2 weeks!! Sorry everyone but we will need to delay the Mudlark for 2 weeks. We essentially lost all of the roads west of town and just couldn't find enough time to put together a "fun" route using what roads were still available on the east side. I will be phoning all out of town competitors shortly as well as sending out an email bulletin to everyone involved. Dissapointing... but we did come across a few more interesting roads today that we will be using in 2 weeks! Friday April 30, 02:00 - Ruh Roh... Snow! Conditions have changed a wee bit.... I decided to head out last night for a quick peek at the roads and it doesn't look good. In the 20 or so kms I managed to traverse I got stuck twice, found 3 sections that simply aren't passable yet and ended up with a mean exhaust leak. Brad and I will be doing an extensive route check today to see what's passable and to try and salvage something. Please check the bulletins saturday morning for an update. Monday April 26, 2010 - Rain + Rain + Rain = Mud? Well with some rain forcast for the 28/29 and 30th it looks like we'll be playing around in the mud all night long... :) We've lined up some fantastic roads... lots of canyons, flowing foothills, forestry roads with nice camber/exposure and a goat trail (if its still passable friday... hehe). Just a reminder that the Novice school is on Thursday from 7:00pm until 9:00pm at the CSCC clubhouse and the finish will once again be at the Smitty's Restaurant bright and early in Cochrane. Oh and we've managed to interface the electronic timing gear with the scoring spreadsheet so we should have scoring completed quicker than last year. See you all Saturday! |
