2011 Loop Rally

For 2011 the Loop Rally will run overnight on September 17-18th and will be headed south of Calgary to explore the scenic Rocky Mountain Foothills.

This is a TSD, so we won't be travelling at warp speed, but some auxiluary lights would not do any harm.

There will be an informative Q&A Session (Novice School) for people new to TSD rallying from 19:00 to 20:30 on Thursday Sept 15th at the CSCC clubhouse.

The rally will use straight-forward navigation in a Regularity / Monte Carlo format, including challenging driving sections. Some driving proficiency will be required due to the night schedule and the nature of the event.

Total distance will be approx 750 kilometers, with 25% paved roads and 75% gravel or all weather roads.

Friday September 16th - Start order posted... bring warm clothes!

A preliminary version of the start order has been posted.

Bring some warm clothes since the weather for the event looks to be fairly cold (dropping down to 5C overnight) and we will be in the mountains. :)

Monday September 12th - 2011 Loop Rally is a GO! Novice school reminder + new pics from the route check.

Hello...

We managed to find enough competitors to get the event rolling and if we can dig up a few more checkpointers we are on route for a wikked event! I'd like to thank Trevor C for his help over the weekend in setting up the routebook. Trevor (Calgary's newest senior) put up with yours-truly for 2 hot+dusty days, froze overnight tenting to save the club $$$ and all he got in return was a few blisters. (Unfortunate result of stuffing a 6-foot frame into a Subaru)

If anyone is sitting on the fence when it comes to adding a couple auxiliary lights, a skidplate or beefy mudflaps... don't... you will save plenty of $$$ in the long run! :)

As for the official venues, I can now confirm that we will be starting in Claresholm, AB (south end of town in the empty lot next to the Dairy Queen [DQ]) with the finish at the Humpties in Nanton, AB. While the first rest stop is your typical gas station type deal the second and final fuel stop is next door to a 24-hour Tim Hortons.

A reminder to everyone attending the Novice school on Thursday... don't forget to bring your Navigator, a few calculators (non programable) and something to write with.

Friday September 9th - Entries needed!

The early entry deadline is fast approaching (tonight!) and we are still short of the minimum required entries. If we haven't reached 10 entries by the evening of Sept 15th (the date of the CSCC novice school) the decision will be made to either postpone or cancel the event.

Sunday August 14th - Supplemental Regulations now available, 2.5RS T-shirts and some photos

The Supplemental Regulations are now available for your pleasure.

I also found some free time this week to peek at some roads south of Calgary and I found a few that'll work. We will most likely be starting in Claresholm and finishing at the Humpties in Nanton a mere 12 hours later... ;)

As an added bonus for people who get their entries in before the early entry deadline we will be giving away a few Subaru 2.5RS tshirts in L and XL so let me know if you like GC's and how large your chest is.
